Advent

Advent is another word for ‘coming’ as throughout four sundays christians prepare for the birth of Jesus. Advent begins four sundays before christmas (27 November).
A  Advent wreath is one of the changes in church that symbolizes the four weeks of advent. There are 4 different candles, three purple one pink. The three purple represent hope, peace and joy. The fourth candle that is the only  pink candle that represents love.  Unlike most candles, these candles have separate times of being lit. The  first candle that is lit are one of the purple and the last is also purple. They are lit every sunday through advent in a certain order. There is also a white candle placed  in the centre of the wreath that is lit on christmas day.

All Saints Day

St Michael the Archangel
Image of St. Michael the Archangel
For confirmation, I would choose this saint because he is referred to an angel, and the leader of all other angels. He is mentioned in the scripture of Daniel, Epistle of St Jude, and Revelation where strength, bravery and leadership is shown in different ways. How his leadership guides the army of God and angels is one of the many reasons he is named Saint Michael the Archangel.

Compare and Contrast

WALHT: compare and contrast information from 2 articles to identify similarities use key ideas to use ideas to synthesize.

Synthesis:  Within these two articles I found three values that were similar to each other. These values included confidence, bravery and strength. In both these sports the girl / girls are very high in confidence to compete at their best standard, bravery to achieve what they need to and strength to get to finish with pride. I also believe that upper body strength is a part of the similarities because in both sports your upper body is used to compete in the sport.

Spider Information Report

Spiders
In fact, spiders are not insects, they are arachnids. Arachnids are a group of eight-legged (all joined to the body) species and have separated body parts, the head and the abdomen. These species have been on earth for more than 500 million years. That is a very long time. There are known to be 4000, of 500 million spiders.

Spiders were designed with very long, skinny legs. In fact, so long that they are measured to be 8 cm in length. This is the maximum length. Their used are used to move quicker when in trouble or to escape their enemies. As a phrase I would say, ‘the longer, the faster’. Then there’s their fangs located just beneath their eyes. Sometimes they are used as a weapon to bite their enemies, but not all the time. Us humans think of spiders as being harmful species but spiders have the same thought. Everyday spiders will look up at us and think of us as giants, don't you think?

There are 4000 different types of spiders, from small to big. Some of these involve tarantulas, alopecosa, arctosa, pirata, lycosa and pardosa. All these spiders may have different diets. Its really depending on the size I suggest. Smaller spiders prey on wood lice, small lizards, frogs and baby birds, while larger spiders eat fish, small  snakes, frogs and lizards. One of the most interesting facts I recommend is that spiders have 1000 babys. Just think about those who struggle with 5 children, imagine having 1000.

Having a spider for a pet is very unusual to have but at the same time okay. It really just depends on your behaviour with spiders. Just don't let them think of you as their enemy.

Sir Edmund Hillary A New Zealand Leader

Sir Edmund Hillary by Ella

In reading this article I have been learning to combine close  reading and inference skills .to analyse text to learn more about the qualities of people known as heroes or leaders.

Sir Edmund Hillary

Sir Edmund Hillary was just an average New Zealander, known to have an adventurous life. If you’ve noticed, his face is printed on the New Zealand five dollar note. It was put there to remind all people of his achievement of climbing Mount Everest. It would feel amazing to know that you’re one of the first people to lay a foot on top of the tallest mountain, wouldn’t it? His life was filled with a lot of things, including his interest in mountain climbing. One of his actions that followed on from his climbing Mount Everest was that he had a major part in helping to change the lives of the Himalayan people through the building of  schools, bridges an airstrip and clinics for people living in Nepal. Without the Himalayan trust, that he created, these actions would not have been used. Sir Edmund Hillary, as you can probably already tell, was knighted by the Queen. This was because of everything he’d  done .

Sir Edmund Hillary was an advocate for all those people, including the children of Nepal. This was shown when he raised money and funds that helped changed the futures of the children. He founded the Himalayan Trust which became a charity foundation, that helped the people who were in need, a lot.  Along with all these things he did, he was also the first person to ever climb Mt. Everest. This led to inspire and encourage others to let them know, you can achieve whatever you want to achieve.

Sir Edmund Hillary believed in what ever did, which led him towards achieving what he believed in. One of those was helping those in need. This was shown in the way he used his fame to get financial support for the needs he had seen for the people of Nepal.

He was a high achiever in his work and had courage for others that thought differently than he did.
